There has been a lot happening around Williamstown High School lately, and these are just a few examples of the ways students are learning, creating and contributing across our departments.
Our Allied Health Academy students recently worked with Ms. Davis, Ms. Romeo and the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at WHS. Students and staff donated 43 pints of blood, with many giving for the first time. For Allied Health students, the day also offered a closer look at the planning, safety procedures and donor care behind a real community health event.
Hispanic Heritage Month has also brought plenty of activity to the World Language hallway. Students, the Foreign Language Club and Spanish National Honor Society decorated the space, prepared informational cards and Spanish candy for staff, and spent time learning about the history, traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. Latin music between classes on Fridays helped carry that celebration throughout the school day.
In Principles of Engineering, students took on the “Walk in Their Shoes” challenge. Each student interviewed a classmate, measured their feet and designed a wearable pair of shoes around that person’s interests and style. They built, tested and adjusted their designs before displaying the finished work at Back-to-School Night.
Outside, students have also been enjoying WHS’s new volleyball court, giving PE classes another place to get moving, work together and make the most of the campus.
This is only a glimpse of the great work happening across WHS every day. What stands out is how often students are learning by doing something that reaches beyond themselves, whether that means helping others, celebrating a culture, designing for a classmate or simply sharing a new space together. That everyday participation is a big part of what gives WHS its energy and sense of community.
