Dolly Day Meets Braves History at WHS

Posted Date: 10/02/26 (11:00 AM)

Six women pose together in a school hallway lined with red lockers, with a decorated duck figurine at their feet.

The WHS Social Studies Department had one rule for Dolly Day: if you’re going to do it, you might as well commit.

On September 25, plaid, cowboy boots, pink, and plenty of Dolly Parton energy made their way into the halls as staff celebrated “Dolly Day.” The fun also gave the department a chance to highlight Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth through age five and encourages reading from an early age.

The Social Studies Department also has another project underway with a strong Williamstown connection. Its new We Are Braves shirt brings four dates together in one design: 1776, 1842, 2001, and 2026, representing the founding of the United States, the founding of Williamstown, September 11, 2001, and the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Proceeds will benefit the Henry B. Maddox Scholarship and support a 9/11 memorial project honoring members of the Williamstown community who answered the call following September 11. Plans include a memorial brick and a replica to be displayed at WHS.

It’s a nice reminder that school spirit can show up in more than one way, especially when a little fun in the hallway connects back to books, history, and Williamstown.

The online store is open through October 15 at midnight.
