Whitehall’s 2nd Grade Poetry Café

Posted Date: 05/22/26 (01:52 PM)

Whitehall’s 2nd Grade Poetry Café was a special afternoon for our students, staff, and families, as smiles, creativity, and plenty of poetry snaps filled the classrooms.

Students participate in a "Poetry Cafe" event, with some reading poems aloud and others in the audience.

Over the last several weeks, students spent time writing, revising, practicing, and preparing for this event. More importantly, they worked on finding their voice and building the confidence to stand in front of a crowd and read aloud with expression and personality. For many students, that can be the hardest part — and they all did an incredible job.

From limericks to cinquains, each poem reflected students’ personal interests and personalities — whether centered around a favorite color, subject, or special memory. Some poems made the audience laugh, others were thoughtful and heartfelt, and every student brought something unique to the microphone, showcasing the creativity and individuality of our young writers. It was clear how proud they were to share their work, and just as clear how proud their families and teachers were watching them.

A heartfelt thank you to the Monroe Township Education Association for helping bring this special event to life, and to Whitehall Principal Ms. Baker, Vice Principal Ms. Manfredi, and our amazing 2nd grade teachers — Ms. Eshelman, Ms. Gentry, Ms. Heller, and Ms. Lopez — for the care, encouragement, and time they poured into helping our students feel confident and proud to share their work.
